Optimizing Room Lighting for High-Fidelity XR Passthrough
The quality of your Mixed Reality experience is heavily dependent on your physical environment's lighting. To get a clear, low-noise passthrough image, aim for bright, even, and diffuse lighting. Avoid harsh point sources like bare bulbs, which can cause 'lens flare' in the headset's tracking cameras. LED lighting with a high CRI (Color Rendering Index) will provide the most natural-looking colors. Furthermore, be aware of 'PWM flicker' from some cheap LED bulbs, which can cause distracting strobing effects in passthrough mode. Using indirect lighting—pointing lamps at walls or ceilings—is often the best way to create a well-lit space that is ideal for both tracking accuracy and visual clarity.
